View Full Version : [xubuntu] Jaunty won't start with new kernel

I've upgraded to Jaunty, and I can start up with the old kernel (2.6.27-13-generic). Everything seems to run fine, including wireless networking and hibernation, though I haven't tested very thoroughly.

But I can't boot with the new kernel (2.6.28-11-generic). I've turned off 'splash' and 'quiet' on the boot line, and it gets as far as displaying a message about 'sadc' not being started. Sometimes it hangs after displaying 'starting privoxy'; sometimes it gets as far as 'starting wicd', but it always hangs, without printing any useful information. The cursor is still blinking, but the keyboard is completely unresponsive; the caps-lock-LED is silent.

I can boot to 'recovery mode' with the new kernel, but run into the same problem if I continue booting from there.

Any advice on getting more information out of the system would be greatly appreciated.
