I had 5 months alone in Japan in a small apartment, and I taught myself linux there (Ubuntu 8.04), and always ran into problems. Now I'm back in the US, but I'm not exactly savvy at social networking. I have a ton of simple questions about linux, and immeadiately about how to get my wireless network working, and I really want to talk to a human being in meatspace, in real time, who knows about this all better than I.

Perhaps I missed something, but is there an established way to meet fellow linuxians in meatspace? I feel the learning curve for me would disappear in an hour of talking with a human in real time.

I live outside Pittsburgh,PA.

There are local LUGs, Linux User Groups. There's also an Ubuntu Users Group in Pittsburgh, they've got like 14 members or something:

If you feel shy they probably have an IRC channel.

Seal, thanks for the heads up. That's my old school, I'm sure they'd be willing to help a recent alumni. I'm not shy, I just don't know anyone based on their OS usage!

and yes, lol meatspace. I've been waiting for a chance to use that for awhile.
