View Full Version : [kubuntu] I want adept-manager back for Jaunty

I'm using about 8 installs of Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 and just upgraded one of them to Jaunty. The user interface will definitely take some getting used to.

One thing I definitely miss is the old adept-manager. It seems like it did more stuff than I can get out of either KPackageKit or the newer Adept. Mostly what is annoying is the inability to reinstall or purge a package. Has this been deprecated in newer versions of apt-get?

I guess I'll have to consider going back to the tried and true command line.

edit: Doh, you said you tried the new Adept.

Hmm. You could try to install the old Intrepid package, I guess. See http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=adept&searchon=names&suite=intrepid&section=all.

Oh God, KpackageKit sucks. It resolves dependencies one at a time, makes you go remove each dependency separately, and helpfully closes the application every time it completes a task. I don't know if it does this by design, or if it's just silently crashing. Either way blows. I'm reinstalling Adept via KpackageKit now. Hopefully it won't crap out on me.
