very true. even when i used to use Windows as my primary OS and i had a valid copy of Adobe Photoshop, i still preferred using GIMP... for a couple reasons.

1) it's open source. that's an obvious reason.
2) script-fu! man, those logos you can create with just a single mouse click are totally stellar!
3) it might be purely psychological, but i always thought that the quality of my GIMP artwork always looked a little better than my Photoshop artwork.
