You could simply change the Firefox start page to a different location, maybe an online greeting card for your brother.

If you want something at startup, have a look at startup applications in the preferences menu. Maybe you could use zenity to have a message window pop up after login.

could send a notification popup. Something like this:

notify-send ["Happy birthday"] "Hope you aren't too old to read this"

run in terminal or alt+f2 to test it out and you could add it to startup applications.

You could also do a:

notify-send ["Happy birthday"] "Hope you aren't too old to read this" && espeak "Happy Birthday bro"
This would make Ubuntu say "Happy Birthday bro!" as well as display the text notification. You can simply add the line to Startup Applications after testing it in the commandline(or with alt+F2).

Install Windows 95 on your computer. That will surprise him. :guitar:

You could Install epidermis and Install the Mac skin, that would cover everything from the Grub to the wallpaper everything will look like Mac OS. though I might not consider it a nice thing to do.

You could also install Windows 3.1 alongside Ubuntu, and set GRUB to make it the default option. Make him apprecaite what he's got even more xD

Ok, when you get to the log in screen, before your brother logs in, type "RequireQuarter" without the quotes :D

I'd change to a birthday cake wallpaper

If his name is Steve, then this is great one : http://www.romancebookcovers.com/steve/birthdayCakeSteve01.jpg

but if in the unlikely event that his name is not Steve, then I guess this one will do: http://wallpapers.net/view/birthday_cake-1024x768.html
But I got to admit that this really looks like something for christmas... so I guess this one might be better http://img.wallpaperstock.net:81/happy-birthday-wallpapers_7559_1440x900.jpg
But that is only if he likes red wine... which in all fairness.. no one does, so here is a better one : http://www.colette.fr/files/image_high_def_47617.jpg

yes I think the last one is a winner

The only logical thing is using a notification, espeak, birthday cake wallpaper, and porn! I think that is the only thing that could cut it. lol.
