I am experiencing a bug in the KDE4 System Settings applet trying to change file associations. This was filed in launchpad and marked as fixed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-workspace/+bug/330201) in version 4.2.1 - I have 4.2.2 installed - 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2(jaunty).
When I try to change any file association settings and press the Apply button, the Updating dialog box appears and when the progress bar reaches 55% the dialog disappears and the settings revert to their original state.
