is there a way to Upgrade to Xubuntu 9.04 in Terminal?

I am running 6.06 on a G3 500 iBook (256 RAM). Anything higher in Ubuntu would cause my computer to not play nicely or completely. I am wondering if I can upgrade to Xubuntu 9.04, and if possible, can I do it without an instal disc?

I'm still new to playing with the innards of Linux, so if anyone can walk me through it like as if I was an idiot, I would be very garteful.
