I've noticed the rest of my running applications get really slow when I have an application doing a lot of disk IO (eg. copying files, rsync backups, creating a .iso, growisofs). During those operations CPU usage is still quite low (~10%).
Is there some kind of kernel option to fix that?
I'm using Jaunty, linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic on an desktop system (Athlon XP 3200+, 2GB memory, 120GB IDE drive, NVIDIA 6800). There have been no driver errors that I can see (looking in dmesg, and not seeing anything elsewhere).
