intel card in 9.04- fix doesn't work

I have a intel 82845g integrated graphics card, which doesn't work well with Jaunty. I followed a fix I found at this page (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/intel-graphics-performance-guide-for-ubuntu-904-jaunty-users.html) and rebooted. After rebooting, the usplash did not show up. I waited about 10 minutes and the usplash still does not show up and X will not start. So now I'm confused as far as what to do.

So what do I do?

Ubuntu finally booted, and works fine.
