I recently upgraded from kubuntu 8.10 to 9.0.4. I now have no sound, and can't track down the cause of the problem. Below is a dump of everything from the alsa script.

Any idea what is wrong?

here is some more data. I've attached the alsa info for the functioning 8.10 distribution. I've also included the alsa info for the non-functioning 9.0.4 info. The kubuntu 9.0.4 distribution disk suffers from the same no sound problem as the upgrade.

I downloaded this now what do I do.

The files contain the exact description of how the system that works and the system that does not work are configured (at least as far as ALSA cares). If you diff the two files, does anything jump out at you as being the reason 8.10 works and 9.0.4 doesn't?

This worked for me, and so I've shamelessly copied and pasted this from another thread:

"Could be the Analog/Digital Output Jack. The function was reversed in an update.
To check. double click on the speaker icon in top panel and look for a 'switches' tab. If it's there then open and uncheck the 'Analog/Digital Output Jack'

If not there then click on 'preferences', scroll down and enable the Analog/Digital Output Jack switch, then go back and uncheck.

Note i don't have pulseaudio so the switch, preferences (alsamixer) is always available, if you see neither then post back."
