Thanks for the reply.
Before reading your reply, I had done the following:
Booted LiveCD, mounted disk with the 9.04 system (hd3), ran from GRUB "setup (hd3)"
The result was when I booted from (hd3) I got the GRUB screen produced from menu.lst. But when I tried to boot 9.04 (or OEL/RHEL,WinXP,Vista) from this screen, I got another Error 17, could not find partition. Before running setup (hd3), I would get "GRUB Loading stage1.5¬,¬GRUB loading, please wait...¬"Error 17 ".
I ran the script boot_info_script032.sh from LiveCD, as shown below. I also mounted the 9.04 partition from LiveCD, changed root to it and attempted to run the script. It failed due to permission error on "/dev/null". When I create a device.map from the same mounted directory for the 9.04 root, I get only (fd0), no hard drives.
