Hi

If I want to change the Firefox and Thunderbird icons to something like this:

file:///home/christian/Desktop/another_alternative_firebird_and_thunderbird_icon. html

in ubuntu, how do I do that?

Are you trying to change the panel icon? You gave the link to a saved html file which we cannot see.

To change the icon in the panel, right click on the icon, go to Properties, click on the icon and select the picture you want to set as icon by browsing.

Okay, thanks, that was just what I needed. Next question - how do I get a random picture file in the list of icons? Does it have to be in an icon package?

What about this site - why doesn't it work?

Those are xpi packages for Firefox. Install them by clicking the links for Linux:

112282

If the bar appears at the top asking whether or not to allow the install, click the "Allow" button.

Yes, and when I do that it says:

Firefox could not install the file at

http://opensource.become.com/mozdev/iconpacks/firefox/fbcrystalball-blue-linux.xpi

because: Install script not found
-204

What should I do about that?

Well, because the install script does not work, but the icons are included in the archive, you could, in theory, download the xpi and extract it to your desktop, just like you would any other archive, then install it manually. Google knows the way.
