View Full Version : [kubuntu] How to verify the "authenticity" of an .iso image?

I downloaded the kubuntu 9.04 image via a torrent but unfortunately I didn't get the torrent file from the Kubuntu website. I'm a bit nervous about upgrading from the iso files I got because it's a big upgrade and I'm not certain that the file is "complete" or "authentic". How can I check it the file is complete and free of errors? Is the an MD5SUM check I can do?

If you want to be safe, you can check it in K3B. Just select the iso image and you'll see a window generating a md5 checksum.

Go to the torrents download page for ubuntu/kubuntu and download the checksum for the version you downloaded, open the file, copy the checksum.

Back in k3b, right click on the iso checksum and compare both
