How to migrate Xubuntu Menu.XML 8.10 and 8.4 to 9.4

Previously in Xubuntu I've simply recopied my
my /home/[myprofile]/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml
to get my precious menu settings migrated from
install to install.

This technique does not seem to be working with 9.4.

Does anybody know how I can migrate my menu settings
to 9.4?

Well folks elsewhere in these confs. somebody mentioned XML editing
of the menus is not possible in 9.4 Xubuntu. It would be handy though
to know where and how these settings are stored.
