Which window manager are you using right now to view this thread? No logging out and logging back in with something more exotic, what are you using RIGHT NOW?

Firefox/XFCE

EDIT: Well, actually, I'm using FIREFOX displaying things with a little help from XFCE & X and all the other "behind the scenes" bits and pieces that make it work.

Technically, GNOME and KDE are not window manager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window_manager)s. Instead, they are desktop environment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_environment)s.

You use a window manager together with a desktop environment. The standard window manager for GNOME is Metacity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacity), and if you're using the desktop effects in Ubuntu then you're using the Compiz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compiz) window manager instead of Metacity.

I use GNOME (with Compiz).

I didn't know Firefox was a window manager...

Anyway, where is the option for Openbox? heh.

Self quoting from the last "wm/de" thread

The thing about these polls, other than the fact they are recurring. is that they never put in proper options. It always seems a fairly popular wm/de is left out and something no one really uses is put in place.

So, instead of the usual discussion lets flesh this out once and for all for all future discussions for all time. Here's a start.

Gnome (Metacity)
KDE (Kwin?)
Xfce
Enlightenment
Fluxbox
OpenBox
LXDE (Or is it Openbox?)
Awesome (Most popular of the tilings)
IceWM
JWM. (Because it's the common WM of all the mini distros at some point; Puppy, DSL, Slitaz)

I'm focusing on ones that are at least somewhat known and regularly used; where can be legitimately dismiss those not as in the poll as too unknown.

It might need to add Emerald to that list, its the main altenative one sued with Compiz..

I swear if people would follow my template, if could form the definite megathread, and form *the final opinion*...

Oooh! You forgot LXDE, that's a desktop environment too! HAHA!

Compiz.

No desktop environment. Just straight Compiz, using GTK apps I selected to install and tint2 as a panel.

Yes, Firefox isn't a window manager, but the question was "what window manager are you using to view this thread?" - and Firefox is what I'm using for that task.

GNOME isnt a window manager, most of you will be using compiz and some may be on metacity

KDE3 (and eventually 4) are my choice for DesktopEnviroment but I'd still choose compiz as my window manager.
