No icons and cannot open any folders after update to 9.04!

i have updated from Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 9.04. It installed normailly. But when i login all my icons are GONE and my folders on my desktop! When i try to open my video's for music etc. it says opening folder for like 25 seconds then goes away! The folder never opens up! At all! Please please help me anyone!

Tell me what happens when you:

Press ALT+F2 and enter gnome-terminal into the resulting window, and type nautilus into the terminal
Right click on the desktop
