Howdy,

Gnome won't start since upgrading to Jaunty, so
I did `sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop`

After reboot I still get a hung gdm.

How do I start the xubuntu desktop?

Thanks,
Kent

when you get to the load in screen, you have to click on options on the bottom left corner (assuming you have the default GDM)

then from there select sessions

and then check the xfce option

press ok

type in user name and password

and then select if you want to use xfce from now on as default or just for one session only.

Hope that helps :D

[QUOTE=5nak3;7193555]when you get to the load in screen, you have to click on options on the bottom left corner (assuming you have the default GDM)

gdm hangs, I need to start from the console.

hmm...erm I'm not sure, never had that problem myself to have done the necessary reading to help you. Unfortunately I think I have gone as far as my linux knowledge allows me, and someone else with a bit more knowledge maybe able to help from here on in...

I'm confused.

What, EXACTLY, is the problem you're having? And is it with the GDM or Gnome? They're two different things...

To start xfce4 from the console, type startxfce4. That's it.
