I asked in another thread that brings no responses so I was it would help if I posted my problem somehwere else.

I had installed 9.04 beta and when I booted it I got no desktop or login screen. So I waited till the final release and was happy to see the login screen. But after logging in I still got no desktop. So I went into the terminal and installed xfce to see if it worked and it did. So I believe the problem is with gnome.
I've tried live CD install, alt cd install, and upgrade

I have an Nvidia 8800 gts gfx card if that helps

It's hard to say what the problem is. I've had no issue with logging into Gnome in 9.04, so it doesn't happen to everyone. Maybe it's something with Gnome and your computer? Maybe you don't have enough RAM? Maybe it's just a funky hardware configuration?

I would file a bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/

Then give the developers the appropriate terminal output when asked.
