I tried installing both 8.04 and UBUNTU 8.10 on my desktop where, I already had Windows XP and Redhat 4. Then I installed ububtu as 3rd operating system on my desktop. While installing ubuntu I got an error at 90% (exactly during hardware configuration). There was no error message displayed but, after 90% the screen flicked and returned to live operating system mode. I tried a lot of time (nearly 20 - 25 times), the same thing happened exactly at that point.

The same error occour while installing 8.04 as well as 8.10. Can you please help me in sorting out this.

I'd try a different CD-ROM DRIVE or computer to see what happens

Do you have another computer?

is this an older computer?

older cd-rom drives read real slow and can cause this problem

on problem machine can you boot to the live cd enviroment?

can you boot to your OEM or XP disc and attempt an install to verify the cd-rom drive is reading cd's correctly?

what happens on the other computer if you try to boot to the live cd?
