What i would like is a secondary clock on my desktop showing time from a different zone to the one that i am in.... is there an application for this?

You can add more clocks to the Clock applet on your panel(s).
Click on the Clock applet -> Locations -> Edit and add a new timezone.. :)

You can also install gworldclock which is in the repos, its a nifty program which can list multiple timezones.
