Okay, every time I try something new in a terminal in Kubuntu, sooner or later I get stopped by this error. I try and run vncviewer - "No protocol specified". I try and install NetBeans - "No protocol specified". I try and alter the system in any way whatsoever (it seems) - "No protocol specifed".
So, what is the damn protocol, and how do I specify it? ;)

Hi! I have the same problem as yours. But i figured it how. First, I tried to install it under root but "No Protocol Specified" was always the error. So what i did was i tried to install it with the user only (ex. user1).
Open the dir of your netbeans and hit Shift+F4
commands:
chmod a+x netbeans-(version)
./netbeans-(version) or sh netbeans-(version)
Then it went to gui installer. Done.
