I have heard that w3counter moslty measures tech sites and so isn't very accurate for the general public, and that hitslink is better if you want a true indication of worldwide market share for a certain product

I have a plan - post w3counter link to as many linux users as possible (for example, in some linux forum), so that we can watch it grow more :)

Yeah! It still counts as a fact when I make it up on the spot, right?

In other news, Linux is found to make you live longer, love deeper, and smell better. Also, it gives you perfect credit.

.
just making a joke about how different sites have all kinds of different statistics about the percentage of people that are using linux.

its really just guessing so i made a guess based on the amount of people I KNOW who use linux.

not me, certainly.

What would explain the dip from Sept 08 to Oct 08?

It's just a habit I formed when I used to post on forums where people had huge flashing banners in their sigs... it was difficult to see any messages with all the ridiculous sigs.

Yes, as really Microsofts boasted market share is technically lower then they claim it is, they only account for how many computers come with windows preinstalled and how many use IE, but they dont account for what people do after the installation of windows and people using user agents...

lol

I have noticed more and more students using Ubuntu, but then again I'm a computer science student, so that probably isn't very meaningful.

so, given that this chart is correct and it starts at the birth of Linux then we reach the end goal in about 300 years?
Cool, then I'll tell my kids and grandkids what they have to tell their kids what to do.

Meanwhile, I can sit down and very relaxed continue with everyday business. :D

Happy 1%, Linux.

I'd like to see the flame comments on Digg, if anyone's posted this on there yet? Diggers make me laugh when they start flaming Linux fanboys.

Does this mean that Bug #1 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1) is 1% fixed?  =D>
