Is it possible to create a network with mixed os's. I run ubuntu and my room mate runs vista. If so is it very hard to do so that we can share files back and forth? Well at least from my machine to his.

Oh I forgot to mention that we are on a wireless network sharing the internet.

It is. In fact, when I installed Ubuntu here it already detected the network and let me connect to the other computers.

Once, I even had to use Ubuntu to "intermediate" the connection between a computer running Vista and one running XP that were refusing to connect to each other. I just connected both to the Ubuntu computer and used it to transfer the files I needed.

But my network is wired, I'm not sure about how it works using wireless.

No it is quite easy. Possibly easier to share your files with the Vista machine than share files between two Vista machines.

Wireless shouldn't make any difference.

Absolutely you can. There is a program called Samba that serves exactly that purpose. You can search the threads for information about how to configure it or just keep asking questions.
