OK, this is my 2nd Ubuntu install, my laptop (that I'm on) has been awesome and steady for months now. So I want to induct the bigger, badder desktop PC into the bunch.
Here's an abbreviated set of PC specs:
DDR3 Corsair Dual Channel RAM

Intel BOXDX38BT LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor

Here's my issue:
I try installing Ubuntu 8.10 and the thing let's me choose options (install, run without affecting computer... etc.) but once I choose, it starts the loading bar back and forth, but eventually stops. I can hear the disc drive stop reading at this point as well.
For Jaunty 9.04, I get past the initial options, and the thing gets to said DOS screen with nothing but a single blinking entry cursor, and I can't type anything. The lights on my keyboard and mouse go off singaling that they're disabled I think...
If I do alternate boot options, and adjust settings... well, I get this issue pretty much: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-225589.html.
Hence I think this is a system hardware issue... I have an Intel quad core processor, for the record.
What I've tried:
1) Boot from CD
-Multiple image downloads, multiple CD's burnt, including different kinds of CD's and different speeds. I've tried 9.04 and 8.10.
2) Install from the Hard drive itself (hangs up at a command about IRQ 16... I'd have to run it again to get the line).

Note: I've installed Ubuntu on this laptop I am using a few months ago, and it was incredibly easy. I got my coworker on Ubuntu last week, he had no issues... Why is this happening with my superior desktop PC?.. I'd love to get this thing up and running so I can start developing and stuff, so please post with help! There MUST be a way right?..
