Beautiful!

It's called 'Strata Aero'. It looks identical to how FF looks in Vista/Win 7. As for the photo, I don't know who she is. I found the picture on Deviantart in the photography section.

I'm playing around with a different sort of dark theme.

Zenburn GTK with Openbox.

HandleGotD (Will Change this shortly)

xcompmgr -cC (I have a Dell Machine with a Geforce 6200 card, my dell is from 2004, so not the fastest machine on the planet). However, since Jaunty was released, with compositing on, this baby still flies. In previous releases, it seems that opening menus or something would momentarily cause a "glitch". This doesn't happen anymore. I don't even notice a speed decrease with compositing on.

lxpanel (I like it because it has transparency, it took me a minute to figure it out though) Oh yeah, I still can't figure out how to get it to autohide.

Surprisingly Gnome (with Compiz) and even KDE4 run pretty well.

You have the 1000 HE as well? I actually have the funtoo iso on here, but I need to check and see if it supports ext4 or I need to mess with it. I might end up back on Arch if I don't snap out of this laziness.

Thanks, and I don't like its likeness with Vista borders neither. I've been searching borders for a long while but nothing interesting...

any recommendation? (the same if its emerald or metacity)I haven't used Metacity for at least 2 years and as for emerald, I gave up looking for decent emerald themes a long time ago and just started making my own. I recommend playing around with the emerald theme manager. See what you can come up with. If you're more comfortable with pixmap editing, just create a template in the Gimp and chop it up for use with emerald's pixmap engine.

This is what I've built my current xfwm and emerald themes from, for example:

Dude, love your shots but honestly, I'd have a much easier time if you saved them with the following settings:

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5954/screenshot1mnp.png

I just tried re-compressing your shot with those settings: 60% of the file size and you have to zoom in 4x before you can see the dithering.

Probably got something to do with the long-held contention, regarding Trolltech's licensing of Qt. Could also have to do with the fact that there are probably fewer Qt apps and, of those, a far greater proportion have KDE dependencies.

edit: i've tried, in the past, to have an all qt/non kde setup (back during my wild fling with qtconfig). opera and arora were obvious choices, fsirc (never figured out quarrel), juffed and that was about it. i couldn't even get any of the graphic apps installed. it was less than satisfying, but i might give it another shot.

I'm baaaaaack! Didja miss me?

I've just been on a trip around the world and back again...Let's see, went to KDE, which was pretty, but kinda chunky on my little old netbook :) and then I went to XFCE, which I actually had originally on my netbook before I upgraded to Ubuntu...I found that it wasn't noticeably quicker than gnome and just didn't look as nice.

Sooooo. I have just spent about four hours uninstalling everything, had a bit of a panic moment when I got caught in an endless error loop, but hey, a hard reboot and disk check later, voila! And I'm back to gnome where I started:

Four hours? You should just be able to uninstall the metapackages through which you installed the DEs then run aptitude safe-upgrade to remove their unused dependencies.

also...what music player is that? is it hard to get it configured to look like that? looks like it would work great on my eee pc

Music player is mocp, theme is transparent-background. From a terminal you would simply call the music player
mocp -T transparent-theme.

The fonts I use are scaled large since this is displayed on a 42" HD TV, you will have to change font sizes and possibly the goto and offset information in the conky script. You will also need to edit or remove the weather section; I used this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1156383&highlight=conky+weather) when setting up the weather info.

The panel I use is tint2.

Back to simple, easy on the eyes desktop...
What's that black dot in the middle of the screen? Gimp slip?

gymophett
May 30th, 2009, 05:35 AM
Details please..

Sure thing. It did not all come in one theme pack though. So here we go.

Wallpaper: http://www.zixpk.com/2008/07/hd-wallpaper-digilove-carbon.html
GTK theme 1 (controls): http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/BSM+Suite?content=96710

Use the BSM silver. Go to customize and use BSM Silver for controls. (Make sure it is NOT BSM flat)

GTK theme 2: http://www.elementary-project.com/downloads.html
Download the Window Theme.
Once Download, unzip the folder and install the .deb file.
Now, under customization use eGTK for the window theme.

Icons: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/MacUltimate+Leopard?content=82844

Fonts: http://www.ubuntu-inside.me/2009/02/installing-mac-fonts-on-ubuntu.html

Use his font setup too.
Then use DMZ (Black) pointer.
Should be all done then. :D

Didn't even notice that. I opened the original screenshot, pre-gimp, and it's not there. Opened it with gimp, and I must have clicked the brush on top of the shot, that's what it is. Sharp eyes, man, real sharp! ;)

This new theme is really growing on me. And the more I look at it, the more I have to agree that it looks like dark chocolate. It was originally supposed to be a "no sugar, no cream" version of Macchiato that I was going to call "Espresso."

I did some experimenting with combining a couple wallpapers (KDE's default "Air" wallpaper and a wallpaper from Alexander_GG's "Colored Backgrounds" set).

I also installed the Breath icon set. This is the first time I've installed a new icon set since December 2008, when I started using Eikon.

EDIT: Also, is there anyway to disable scrollbars in Nautilus like you can in gnome-terminal?

Bespin is nice, but it needs a patch to fix it with 4.3. The window border buttons sometimes have the wrong colors and sometimes disappear entirely. Or at least, that's what I noticed.

There is actually a patched version of stasks that implements window peeking in a very hackish way. It sets the window temporarily to "always on top" and doesn't work for minimized windows. However, there's a proper highlight window effect built into KDE 4.3 by default. Here's a demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqviTYwJa1E).

You'd be surprised how flexible it is to customize.

Thank you! That is exactly what I'm looking for! I'm so excited!

Meh. I've wasted enough time dicking around with my userchrome.css, getting it to where it is. It's ugly but it does the job.

That said, I wouldn't mind figuring out how tbird gets rid of the ugly border around it's searchbox:

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9773/tbird.jpg

Thing is, the moment I mouseover the searchbox, it gets the white border around it and it stays there.

The google search box works as an impromptu calculator. Plus the search hints help out when I'm not totally sure what exactly I'm searching for. That drop-down is enormously useful.

Also, yes, it's a quickie clipboard for when I'm copying and pasting some text from a website into an IM window, for example, and don't want it to use all the HTML formatting.

It is. Just an idea...if you added a conky script for the middle part, and put in some time updates for your location and couple others, that could be cool. It would require some tweaking to get them to exact location but that's the fun part...

I have this in my conky:

Dallas$alignr${exec env TZ=US/Central date --rfc-3339=seconds}
Munich$alignr${exec env TZ=Europe/Berlin date --rfc-3339=seconds}
Oulu$alignr${exec env TZ=Europe/Helsinki date --rfc-3339=seconds}

I don't like the cairo menu in awn because it doesn't pick up my GTK theme for some reason, and it bugs me :( Also, you can't change the font, etc. I'm being pretty picky! But given that I ditched XFCE entirely because I couldn't get the menu to look *just right*...I think I may have issues.

Well, to each his own, power of open source.

I do a lot of copying and pasting, and let me tell you what a PITA is: it's when you copy some text from a website and then paste it in a blog entry only to discover it's brought along a whole boatload of unnecessary formatting and javascript tags that were hidden in there.

So, I quickly paste it in the search box, then copy it from there. Instant format-reset.
