I installed Jaunty and everything seems to work fine, only problem is I noticed everything was reacting very sluggisch.
When I deactivated "Visual Effects", suddenly everything started to go very fast, no more lag.

My laptop has 2.4Ghz CPU and 4 Gig of memory so it should be able to run compiz just fine.

I ran the compiz test that I found on the forum here and this is the result:

Distribution: Ubuntu 9.04
Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Driver in use: fglrx
Rendering method: None

Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system... [SKIP]

Checking for hardware/setup problems... [SKIP]

At least one check had to be skipped:
Error: No rendering method in use (AIGLX, Xgl or Nvidia)

Is this a driver issue that can be resolved with a different driver ?

Anyone else with the same ATI graphics board, and if yes how did you solve it or does everyone just disable viual effects ?

Hello there...

Same problems with my Dell Studio 1737... :(
Tried some tricks with the compiz settings to speed it up..
Like removing blur, motion blur..
Changing the setting for quality/performance to performanc etc...

Its is fairly stable but the biggest nudge is when I restore windows that are minimized...

Anyway I think that a solution will be found... not in the near future though as ATI is putting no effort to support Linux...

Maybe after 2-3 releases of the closed source driver this will be solved... :lolflag:

Any questions?
