Odd behavior when switching workspaces.

After I upgraded to 9.04, I noticed that odd things happen to my desktop when I switch workspaces. When I switch from my primary workspace, it won't display any shortcuts, mounted drives, folders, or my top toolbar. Is there something basic that I'm missing?

Self-fix...
I turned off Visual Effects and then turned them back on. Once I selected "normal" effects, it started searching for drivers. I figure the drivers updated, but couldn't swap while they were in use. Everything works great now.
