Hi, I have the same problem. The Live CD never worked, so I had to install using alternate CD. But, instead of a logging screen I have a garbled one with the mouse pointer for a few seconds and then the system hangs.

I solved the screen problem replacing de xorg.conf file with the one I have from Ubuntu 8.04 which I have installed in a separate partition. Now I see the logging screen but the system still hangs a few seconds after that.

I have received no answers to my posts.

Good luck.

What type of graphics card is installed or onbiard - this important to determine issue! Intel, NVIDIA, ATI?
