I have a dual hard drive, dual boot desktop with Windows XP on one hard drive and Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid on the other. I am relatively new to linux operating systems. here's the scoop: Windows XP works perfectly, and Ubuntu is starting to give me random reboots. I can't really do anything for long. It started out few and far between but now every few minutes. here are my questions:
1. Can I use XP's stability as an accurate control to rule out hardware?
2. If not, what logs can i dig up or what tests can i perform to diagnose this problem?
I really like the philosophy of Linux and I love the look and feel of the OS. If i can't figure this out, I guess I'm stuck with Windows.
My Hardware is as follows:
MSI MS-6741 Mobo
AMD Athlon 300+
1 GB PC 2700 RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 GPU (w/ Ubuntu Restricted Driver Package)
80 GB WD Hard Drive
Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE 24 Bit Sound Card
Any help would be great. I wish to support Linux in every way possible.
Thanks, 10/4:guitar:

Have a look in /var/log and check some of the log files. Go to System-->Administration-->Log File Viewer. See if there is anything that sticks out.
