Boot Error 22

Having just upgraded from 8.04 to 9.01 I now have a boot error.

On boot.
Grub laoding please wait.....
Error 22

*Flashing cursor.

Can any one tell me what is going on here and how I can restore my system.
Most of my files are backed up on a second drive but there are still some new ones I would like to save if possible.
The computer has booted twice with 9.01 with out a problem, this is the third start up and first to fail.

Intel duo core Nvidia graphics two gig ram 32 bit system instaled.

Thank you for the reply, I am sorry but I do not understand this link totaly, There is no windows on the pc and only was 8.04 before 9.01.
But I will try the boot from live cd and follow repair grub instructions.
