My parents are cheap, and it's time for a new laptop.

I have Acer 5315 right now, and its made so cheap. The only pro I can think of is the screen quality. It's made of like plastic, literally.
So for one, I want something quality made (whether it's a netbook or notebook), but still not expensive. Anywhere from 2 or 3 GB of ram. I need at least 80GB of HD. This will be the computer I use for the next 4 years. Well, maybe just 2. When I get a job, because I'm only 14. :P I will still have my 15.4 inch Acer. I use it for music downloading, browsing, IMing, movies, studying, school projects, photo editing, pictures, and essays. Not a big gamer. Very smart, know my way around computers better than most people. Nothing too heavy, but my full size notebook is only 4 or 5 lbs. I don't go anywhere with it so often. Except walking around my house, bringing it to friends houses, grandparents, vacation, hotels, the mall, and sometimes school.. Okay, maybe I do bring it around some.
I just want good. My needs aren't terribly high.
What should I get?
Thanks. :D

for those specifications I think it would be REALLY hard to find a netbook THAT good.
netbooks are supposed to be light, cheap, and portable:neutral:

1GB will work since I'm using Ubuntu, not anything like Vista.. But the HD is not hard to find. The Acer Aspire One is $300 and has a 160GB HD!

ANY kind of photo editing beyond rotating the image 90 degrees left or right, NEEDS a screen larger than 10"....and needs a better monitor than what netbooks and most laptops offer.

A netbook combined with a dektop tower is a winning combination--do the resource intensive tasks, and the tasks requiring LARGE amounts of screen space on the tower--do the general typing/playing on the internet on the netbook.

Netbooks are not intended to be the only computer you own...they are best used as a ultra-mobile supplement to a larger screened machine.

Hmm. True. I just don't know what to get. Photo editing isn't really a big deal here. And I need more than the crappy battery life I get on this thing (1 hour!)..

I have an old 15" laptop, and a new Dell mini 9 netbook... for your pricerange/useage you can't multi-task very well on a netbook, just no desktop space so IMing while surfing isn't going to be a ton of fun... For you I'd suggest staying with a 14" or larger.... you MIGHT be okay on a 12" netbook but I'd count out anything smaller for your application... Here's my pick (My toshiba is 9 years old, beat up and runs like a champ, only ever replaced the hdd once 8 months ago...)

Yeah, I was actually looking at that one earlier. I've got a couple of weeks to decide, but I'm leaning towards a netbook. I love how portable they are, and I can always still use this one. Which has a 15.4 inch screen.
