Hi folks,
because elections are coming soon, I'm thinking about lobbying for Open Standards in the government of my home city.
(Vienna: ~1.6mill inhabitants, about 80.000 people directly or indirectly employed by the city)
Directly mandating Open Source is not possible because there is still too much resistance and it is probably illegal in the European Union anyway.

Making Open Standards mandatory should be easier and still achieves the following:

Reduced vendor lock-in.
People can use Open Source easily if they deal with the city administration.
Adaption of Open Source becomes easier in the future.

Some countries already have this policies regarding the OpenDocument Format, but not for a broad range of content types.

So I cobbled together some kind of discussion paper and a list of open formats. (see attachement)

Hope I get some input and maybe extend the list of "good formats". :guitar:

Bye, Maix

I'm against mandating trivial things.
