Okay I turn the laptop on with the disc in up comes the boot menu. I can run the memory test, and access teh F(number) options. When I press enter to Install or Try out Ubunto... nothing happens it freezes..

I have an acer aspire 3680,
very basic standard pc, Ubunto 7.1 worked on it. Tried burning the cd twice. And they both work on my other computer...

What could my problem be?
any help would be much appreciated :)

It's probably something to do with the kernel changes or other low-level bits - a job to diagnose without more info.

You've quoted the model of PC, but which flavour and version of Ubuntu are you trying? From 7.10 I'd try 8.07R2 as a suitable step - the initial 8.04 gave trouble with some portables, and the later stuff may be a step too far.

Can you use the F options to get it to boot nosplash and not quiet - this would show progress messages.
