I have an old (2001) HP Pavilion N5470, which has PC card slots in the side. It also has USB ports, but I would prefer to use the slots if possible. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on it, having (finally) trashed the execrable Windoz ME that came on it.

I've been hunting online for an external WiFi card that would work with this old machine, but I am not much of a gear-head and so am having difficulty figuring it out. I presume I need a card with a non-CardBus interface (too new). Can someone help? Most of the info I've been able to unearth on this site has been more useful if you're having trouble with existing equipment.

I'm not certain that cardbus won't work, but there should be no problem with any wireless card about 2 years old. Even broadcom has come out with linux drivers for some chipsets. The only card that I haven't gotten to work had a hardware failure.
