I've been thinking about how Ubuntu isn't very good looking or color neutral right of the box. So in answer to that, i want to see some color neutral desktops, and find out what makes a desktop look color neutral and good at the same time. So please help me out and post your desktop or ideas on what would make a good default desktop.

If you mean color neutral, as in, a nice color scheme that fits with the Operating System and everything looks nice, then here's mine which I think is awesome for just that;

I do love the baby-blue, it makes it feel cozy, bright and it's a nice environment to work in.

There's a screenshot thread stickied, just have a browse in there, see if you find anything that suits you, I guess we're all different. :)

What i mean by color neutral is that the theme looks good no matter what wallpaper you have. I base it on the wallpaper because when you customize something, you put it against your wallpaper and see if it looks good (basically match in color scheme). Let's take Vista's interface for an example. The Aero interface looks good no matter what you set as your wallpaper, and the icons fit in too. Right now Ubuntu Human only works with orange wallpapers. Try putting a blue wallpaper like Air from KDE 4.2 straight out. It looks bad.

Thanks. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Do you know anything kinda darkish though? Something like Dust?

i was about to say the same thing about royalty. its a fantastic theme, and i have used it with so many wallpapers, font settings, and the theme rocked big time. Besides, its dependent on just the xfce engine, so speed was awesome.

You can change the accent color in dust to any thing you want, just hit customize. Also there is a blue dust meta city theme (http://gnome-look.org/content/download.php?content=91808&id=1&tan=89989631). this is what dust looks like in blue

Yeah, i used to do that. I never could really find a very good blue though. What are you using in that screenshot?

Got it, thanks. So far I've determined that dark with white content boxes is the way to go.

Anyone know about icons?

the guy who made these themes is VERY cool ;)...

Original (grey with a little bit of red):

Ubuntu-colored version:

Blue-tinted version:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Cyclotram+Chilled?content=103434

one of these themes should match your wallpaper!

P.S. I'm working on a darker, monochrome, glossy version of this theme.

Not quite my style, but it's a pretty good idea. I'm glad there's a good GTK for people that like that.
