Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday introduced a line of inexpensive small business notebooks that offer a choice between Windows or Linux operating systems.

Starting as low as $529, the ProBooks combine business functionality with a number of consumer features, such as high-definition graphics and Blu-ray drives. Buyers also have the option ofIntel (NSDQ: INTC) or Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) processors.

The laptops are available with Windows Vista, which can be downgraded to Windows XP. In addition, buyers can choose Novell (NSDQ: NOVL)'s SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 as an alternative to the Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) platform. It's the first time HP has offered preinstalled Linux on a mainstream business laptop.

Almost too good to be true.
The original press-release by HP says that Linux will be pre-installed on "selected models":

So lets hope the selection will be wide. :KS

We'll see how well they do.

Isn't HP like Lenovo with it's "on-again,off-again" Linux offerings? It would be nice but so far Dell is the only major one that has been consistent.
