IF you have a separate /home folder, then just format only the /root folder ONLY & don't format the /home folder and your installation should replace just the O/S.

When installing a fresh operating system you should always have separate partitions for /, /home and SWAP. Then when you reinstall in the future you only need to mess with one of the partitions.

I hadn't partitioned it with a home folder and root folder so I will have to do it a different way or just edit the partition.
Though this is a post-question to the thread I posted a bit ago.
