View Full Version : [ubuntu] When good gnomes go bad...

I installed Ubuntu on my computer and at first I felt quite happy with it. It was a bit slow and Firefox leaked memory just as badly as it did under windows but mostly it was sort of okay and I set up an icewm session so that I could do some thing a bit faster in that.

However my system has slowly deteriorated and now I have reached a point where gnome has decided it likes to work in VGA. I've tried to change it but it just stays in VGA.

I've just got a message to say I could upgrade to the latest version of ubuntu and I wondered if that might re-install something that has gone bad although I'm a bit scard to try it.

Strangely the login screen remains at full res as does my icewm session. As soon as I start gnome or failsafe however it goes bad.

My gnome just seems to be getting more and more sick now tho.

If anyone has any idea how to fix the problem I'd love to hear from you! :)
