gedit failing to run on upgrade to jaunty

my 9.04 upgrade went super smooth, but for some reason now gedit doesn't run.

the first try it seems like it wants to start, showing the item in the bottom bar, but it disapears quickly. the next time i try, it just doesn't start at all.

any ideas?

Hi, can you open a terminal and try starting it from there and see if it provides any additional information.
