Is there a way to set up desktop session snapshots and then quickly switch them in for different tasks?
When I'm working on a given project, I'll usually want to have a certain configuration of apps, documents, websites, and file browser windows open. For example: while working on one project, I'll want Maya, GIMP, a file browser for that project's files, and browser tabs for modeling and texturing sites. For another project I'll want three terminals in specific directories, a set of files open in Kate, two konqueror windows, and a few online code references.
When I switch from one project to another I spend all this time opening apps, terminals, firefox tabs, and konqueror windows. It would be awesome to be able to save different configurations and then switch between them ... without restarting the whole desktop session. Does that feature already exist? If not, how hard would it be for me to implement, do you think ?
