In this mode, each monitor should have its own desktop GUI. The problem is that when I execute programs on the secondary monitor, the program gets launched on the primary monitor. Is this a bug, or is there a secret squirrel setting in some "smoky, dark, back room" file I have to manually edit?

I'm not sure why, but Firefox will start load on the monitor that it's executed from. However that's the only program I can get to do it.

This website isn't for 9.04 but it should help to get you
on the right track you can take a look at it here (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/dual-monitors-with-nvidia.html)

That sets up TwinView, which I think is different from separate x screens.

yeap same problem here as well. I've been running jaunty 64 bit since it was beta and it's always behaved that way. The odd thing is this if i open a app that came installed with jaunty example any of the default games it will open on the primary monitor. now if i open a app that i installed like virtualbox it will open on which ever lcd panel i opened it with.Just strange
