Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install v8.10 on an IBM NetVista (2.6 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB HD wiped clean before installation). All goes smooth as silk until the installation completes and asks me to remove the CD and reboot. Then I get this error message:
"Gave up waiting for root device. ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/6d5249c3-473e-464b-a86c-6c8223351672 does not exist. Dropping to a shell."
Obviously Ubuntu can't find my HD. But why? There's only one in the PC and grub finds it OK (although slowly it seems). Many thanks to anyone who can assist.
