It's good. Just not what I choose to use. but it's not bad by anymeans. Just different.

i have used mandriva for some hours and it wasn't impressive. not too bad either though. (definitely Not my taste :P)

For KDE, it's one of the best. I've tried both Kubuntu and Mandriva KDE, and it's implentation seems far less buggy and far more ahead (YMMV).

As for Mandriva Gnome, I couldn't even begin to tell ya :lolflag:

Wish I could try it. I haven't been able to boot a Mandriva release in almost 2 years.

I think the PCLOS (http://www.pclinuxos.com/) adaptation is the only version worth the time to install.

Have to disagree with you there. IMHO PCLinuxOS is just an unstable fork of Mandriva

Isn't Mandriva the one that you have to pay to use some of their repos?

I think it's awesome, better support out of the box than Ubuntu for me. In fact I'm going to install the Spring edition after this semester ends(I have to present a Web server in Debian). It's one of the best distros IMO.

Really? Wow I'm surprised! Have you tried it since the 2007 release?

The PCLOS project is in some trouble right now from what I understand.

The last few releases of Mandriva are pretty nice but I don't like the whole powerpack thing.

my first linux i got when i switched completly was the mandriva powerpack.
i very quickly made up my mind that i would use deb packages based linux instead rpm so i was actually very happy with mandriva and it is one of the best distros around i think. but i just wanted to use something else and i have not tried the newer mandriva powerpacks other than trying out a couple of live dvd sessions from the dvd i got from linux magaxine.

+1 (up to Spring 2009 which I haven't seen yet)

yes, kde on Spring 2008 seemed really smooth. Udpmi pkg mgr pretty idiot proof and bug-free.

My vote for a distro likely to induce windows users to migrate to linux (after ubuntu of course!)

Don't like it's package management set-up at all.

WHAT???????? Thats terrible!

Certainly is terrible when they don't even provide easy access to information about exactly what packages are included in the paid for version. http://store.mandriva.com/product_info.php?cPath=149&products_id=398
How are customers supposed to know what they're getting?
It's a con.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking. You pay for the powerpack to get a few codecs and stuff.

No, but I tried the gnome 2008 release, and it broke it's self twice in the first week. I release this wasn't an official release, so I don't count it. I'll give 2009 a try. Maybe it will work better for me.
