View Full Version : [xubuntu] Where's KSayIt? (text to speech)

I just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.04 on my laptop. It looks great. I have a problem though, and that is I can't find the "KSayIt" application anywhere in Add/Remove or Synaptic. I've used this app on all my Ubuntu/Xubuntu systems so far without a hitch. Does anyone know what's become of KSayIt? If it's no longer supported, can anyone recommend a good text-to-speech alternative?

Hi, I think the package name is kttsd not ksayit. So try searching for kttsd, or from the terminal

sudo apt-get install kttsd

Thanks for the reply, but it is "ksayit" that I need. I already have "kttsd" installed, but I still need the KSayIt front-end to get my computer to speak. :(
Does anyone know how I can get KSayIt?

Can anyone tell me how I can get and install KSayIt without going through the Ubuntu repositories? KSayIt just isn't there anymore, and kttsd and kttsmgr are useless to me without it. Alternately, can anyone tell me how to use Orca so that it reads only what I specifically tell it to read, like the contents of my clipboard - on command?
