View Full Version : I have found the best, most professional looking theme ever!

It's called Balanzan. I love it. It looks better than any theme I've tried. Its professional and easy on the eye. It should be the Ubuntu default theme.
Here's how you get it:
http://theindexer.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/balanzan-theme-nice-ubuntu-theme/

And my own personal screenshot attached.

It installs EVERYTHING, GDM, Theme, Fonts, Icons, and they look great!

So far, no bugs.
I will be using this for.... ever?

Now this is what Ubuntu's Human theme should look like. It's brown, but it actually looks good.

I feel the same way about this theme as I do the default. It's good, but not for me.

I admit the icons do look nice, as does the gdm, but otherwise it looks like human-murrine with some changes and better colors. Not really the best theme ever (the window buttons, for example, still leave a lot to be desired).

I guess the buttons could be more... umm better? Wait, that didn't sound right.

Oops #-o Yeah it's Shiki-brave with this wallpaper, and the gnome colors-brave icons, of course.

Same. I think the new metacity looks much better than the striped one though.

Edit: Also, Aerostream (http://ve1n.deviantart.com/art/A-E-R-O-S-T-R-E-A-M-70590157), found via the art forum, complements gnome-colors very nicely.
It's in many colours (for use with other -colors themes, or others like Pucko (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Pucko+Modern?content=91937)).

I like the new one, too. I got so used to the stripe it looked kind of funny without it though.

Sorry, but I think that looks ugly.

Shiki is such a nice theme. It's perfect once I make the scroll bars a little thiner and coloured.

I don't like it and it is definitely not easy on the eyes. When I saw your thread title I thought I would finally find a good theme that is not too white or too black, but turned out to be a huge disappointment.

To each his own, I guess. Personally, I don't fancy it much. :(

But don't take this (and all the other posts) as a reason to stop using it! Everybody has their own preference, and if you enjoy using that theme, then by all means, go ahead and use it!

I also like that theme that Open Solaris uses, but I could never get it to install for some reason.

its a decent theme sure, and even a good alternative to the default ubuntu theme (if you like feces brown all over your desktop), but as far as being the "best, most professional looking" i strongly disagree

but i guess themes are all personal preferences anyway

so congrats on finding a theme that you enjoy :)

On the topic of themes, Dust has been rocking my desktop since I installed Jaunty RC. It has the sensibility of darkroom with the solution of grey so as not to make certain apps look like a film development room.

Dust was nice, but made a white bar in Firefox, which I was extremely annoyed by.

& what is the most 'professional' them you have seen everyone?

Gotta agree here, everyone's taste is different but I don't like it at all. Macs theme is grey and light coloured, Windows theme is translucent and blue. These are neutral colours easy on the eyes and professional looking. There is a reason most business logos follow a certain colour scheme. Brown/yellow too strong, too out-of-place.

Meh . . . it doesn't excite me.

Speaking of themes, there is a theme called Mira that I find to be one of the most gorgeous and usable dark themes I have encountered.
GDM login theme
GTK2
Metacity
XFwm
Emerald
Can find it here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Mira+by+sen7?content=117634)

This is my current. My only complaint is the Xfwm border, but making Xfwm4 themes isn't very hard . . .http://gnome-look.org/content/preview.php?preview=1&id=117634&file1=117634-1.jpg&file2=&file3=&name=Mira+by+sen7

How did you replace the ubuntu logo in the upper left hand panel corner thingy?

Search through the pixmaps directory under usr/share.

However, some themes store this icon elsewhere, hence why that theme uses the color-wheel.

I think it's fantastic. Personally, I hate the new purple Ambiance theme. I wish they'd go back to the brown theme.

Mine is literally eye candy.

I'm thinking about mixing and matching the Gnome-Color icons, and changing my gnomenu theme to have a gradient of colors.

The last thing in the world my eyes want is candy.

I modified my theme to be absolutely the easiest it could possibly be on my eyes.

Anything beyond that imho, is a waste of time & eyesight.

My theme is fun. Also now my mom doesn't fear the computer, at least mine. She has an account with everything set up like mine, just with a different wallpaper, and different icons. She's lost on Windows.

My reply was just relating to the quality of themes.

I wish that my 80+ year old mum was capable of being computer literate to the point of being able to just use the web, & a digital camera.

As intelligent as she once was, it seems to be all a bit too hard for her at this stage of the game.

This is what happens to us as our bodies degenerate, though, when we are young it seems impossible...

Sinister :lolflag: coming from an old bastard who's mind/body is degenerating as he speaks. :( (like everyone else who is beyond the age of 6 months old!)
