Backup system configuration

i am making a lot of changes to my Kubuntu 9.04 installation, is there any tool that could take backups or snapshots of the system config so i can return to any configuration at a certain point of time? i just need the system config not other data.


If not, what directories are needed to restore system to a previous state (i want to make sure i can boot properly, KDE config are all ok, init programs and network config are all ok)
