Had a very stable 8.10 with my Vaio desktop; Geforce 4600 had 3D compiz cube effect - really smart!
Upgraded to 9.04. Now really really slow -

Tried to install Nvidia binary v 173 or 177 as I had before and it says it is not supported and will not install. Grrr
Am I missing something here ?
I feel a few weeks of head scratching and late night looming
thanks
Ian

Tried to use synaptic; filter for nvidia and selected nvidia-glx-173
this gave me my compiz etc back
but now on reboot log txt says nvidia-glx-96 ? and I have oversided icons & text
