having trouble resizing partition for xp ubuntu dual boot

Hey I wanna dual boot xp and ubuntu but when i get to the screen to resize the partition for sharing between them it says resizing partion... then operation failed. After that it takes me to a screen with dev/something/something... with stuff like edit partition, delete partition, etc... Can someone please help me out on dual booting?

Did you defrag the XP partition 1st? Do that. take a look at Psychocats Ubuntu Linux Resources (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index.php)
