I have ubuntu 8.10 that installed on a different hard disk (small one) and window that installed in the major hard disk. I have also dual boot that have by default run ubuntu.

I want to update to 9.04 but when I inset the CD and restart, the 9.04 wants to make partition on the major hard disk (where only window live there) and there is no option to install it on the hard disk where ubuntu 8.10 run (the small hard disk).

I just want to update my ubuntu to 9.04 (and to save my user name and internet connection). How to do it?

If you are wanting to upgrade to Jaunty without reinstalling then you can either download the alternate cd (http://noncdn.releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/)and do the upgrade or you can do a network upgrade by opening up Update manager and selecting the option to upgrade to Jaunty.
