Jaunty on GA-MA74GM-S2 will not boot to real time kernel

My system won't boot to the real time kernel. It pukes with a stack trace almost immediately. The message starts with:

tick_handle_periodic + 0x19/0x80

Another user with the same motherboard is reporting the same problem.
